MANILA, Philippines– Senator Kiko Pangilinan alleged on Monday, October 20, that Chinese syndicates are working with Filipino businessmen and government officials to smuggle agricultural products into the Philippines. He made the claim at a press conference in Manila.

Pangilinan said the illegal entry of farm goods is hurting local producers and weakening the country’s food security. He urged the government to investigate the alleged collusion, strengthen enforcement, and impose heavier penalties on those involved.

According to Pangilinan, smuggled products have made it difficult for Filipino farmers to compete in the market, putting jobs and livelihoods at risk. He pressed authorities to intensify monitoring and interception efforts, and called for legislative measures to better counter agricultural smuggling.

He also appealed for transparency and accountability among officials who may be linked to these activities and encouraged the public to report suspicious movements of farm goods.
