A Chinese navy warship collided with a China Coast Guard vessel while both were pursuing a Philippine patrol boat near Scarborough Shoal.

The China Coast Guard ship, with hull number CCG‑3104, attempted a close maneuver from the starboard quarter of the BRP Suluan, a Philippine Coast Guard vessel escorting Filipino fishermen.

Footage from the incident shows the Chinese coast guard using water cannons against the Philippine vessel before the collision between the Chinese ships.

China has described the actions of its coast guard as lawful and aimed at removing unauthorized vessels from the area. The Philippines has not issued a detailed statement regarding the incident.

No injuries were reported. Philippine officials offered assistance to the damaged Chinese vessel, but the offer was not acknowledged.

Scarborough Shoal remains a contested area in the South China Sea, with both China and the Philippines asserting claims.
