A federal judge in Chicago issued a temporary restraining order on Thursday that halts the Trump administration’s plan to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois.

The administration ordered troop deployments to several U.S. cities to address protests and public safety concerns, but critics in Illinois said the action would only heighten tensions.

Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot led the push against the plan, asserting that Illinois can manage its own security without federal interference.

The court’s order supports their position and temporarily blocks the deployment while legal challenges proceed.
