MANILA, Philippines — Six House representatives from Manila have called on the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) to reimburse the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) for P340 million.

This sum represents scholarship grants provided by the city-run university under the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST) program.

The representatives argue that the funds should be returned to ensure the university can continue its mission of providing education without financial strain.

PLM, a public university in Intramuros, Manila, has been offering these scholarships to support students in their academic endeavors.

According to sources, the scholarships were granted based on the guidelines set by UniFAST, which is part of CHEd’s initiative to provide financial support to students pursuing tertiary education.

The UniFAST program is designed to offer comprehensive student financial assistance, including scholarships, grants, and loans.

The representatives have not detailed the exact reasons why the reimbursement has not yet been processed by CHEd.

However, they emphasize the importance of adhering to the program’s existing rules to ensure the sustainability of scholarship programs at PLM and similar institutions.
