ROMA, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized about 1,070 pounds of methamphetamine from a tractor-trailer carrying laundry detergent across the Texas-Mexico border on Aug. 11, authorities said Friday.

CBP officers detected anomalies in the shipment through a nonintrusive imaging system at the Roma International Bridge, which connects Roma with Ciudad Miguel Alemán in Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Officers searched the 2012 tractor-trailer and found 240 packages containing about 485.78 kilograms of methamphetamine. CBP estimated the drugs’ street value at $9.57 million.

Authorities turned over the drugs, tractor-trailer and driver to the Roma Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing.

The seizure occurred as CBP reported several other large drug seizures at Texas border crossings.

On June 15, CBP officers seized about 1,100 pounds of methamphetamine worth an estimated $10 million from a Volvo at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo.

Four days later, officers at the same bridge found more than 7,000 pounds of methamphetamine inside a Dodge Ram, according to CBP.

Also on June 19, officers at the Pharr International Bridge found about 1,000 pounds of drugs inside a tractor-trailer traveling between Pharr and Reynosa, Mexico.

The Roma International Bridge sits about 55 miles west of McAllen. It serves as one of the road crossings along the Texas-Mexico border.
