MANILA, Philippines — Filipino import Carl Tamayo said he has moved on from Changwon LG Sakers’ semifinal exit in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) but remains focused on winning a championship in the next season following his contract extension with the team.
Tamayo told the Inquirer during the Dayo23 event in Tondo, Manila on Saturday that he believes the LG Sakers will have a stronger chance in the upcoming season despite falling short in the previous campaign.
He said the team is aiming to bounce back after its playoff loss.
The LG Sakers, which won a title last year with Tamayo as a key contributor, exited the playoffs this season after losing to Goyang Sono Skygunners in a 3–0 semifinal sweep.
Goyang Sono later failed to reach the championship, losing to Busan KCC Egis, which had William Navarro on its roster.
Tamayo said he remains encouraged by the presence of multiple Filipino players in the KBL and other international leagues.
In the recently concluded playoffs, several KBL teams featured Filipino imports, including Arvin Tolentino with Seoul SK Knights, Ethan Alvano with Wonju DB Promy, and Rhenz Abando with Anyang JKJ Red Boosters.
