MANILA — Camila Osorio of Colombia staged a comeback to capture the first WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open championship on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Osorio dropped the opening set but recovered to defeat Croatia’s Donna Vekic, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the title match.
The Colombian opened the second set with three consecutive games to take a 3-0 lead. Vekic responded with a late surge to narrow the gap to 5-3, but Osorio held serve in the ninth game to force a deciding set.
The third set featured multiple service breaks as both players battled for control. Vekic moved ahead 4-3 in the seventh game, yet Osorio saved two break points in the 11th game to edge closer to the title.
Osorio sealed the victory with an ace in the final game to secure the tournament crown.
