Cambodia has withdrawn from the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2025 in Thailand following an escalation of border conflicts that prompted a mass civilian exodus on both sides of the disputed frontier, a SEA Games official confirmed Wednesday.
Akarin Hiranprueck, a Thai SEA Games official, said organizers received formal notification of Cambodia’s decision. Security incidents along the Thai-Cambodian border led authorities in both countries to evacuate residents from affected areas.
SEA Games organizers said preparations for the event continue with remaining participating countries, while the Federation is reviewing schedules and arrangements in response to Cambodia’s absence. Thai and Cambodian authorities are maintaining border security and assisting displaced civilians as diplomatic and military discussions continue.
