Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, became the first player to leave LIV Golf when he resigned from the Saudi-backed league.

The move raises questions about how and when he might return to the PGA Tour and under what terms officials would allow his reinstatement.

LIV Golf announced Koepka’s departure on its website and named American golfer Talor Gooch as the new team captain in his place. The league did not disclose details of Koepka’s contract termination or whether it will pursue financial or legal action.

Koepka joined LIV Golf in 2022 and served as a team captain. His exit affects team rosters, tournament marketing, and fan interest, while his PGA Tour eligibility remains subject to existing rules for former LIV players. PGA Tour officials have not released a timeline or statement on his reinstatement.

Major championship organizers continue to set their own qualification criteria independently, and Koepka remains eligible to compete through exemptions from past victories.
