CEBU CITY, Philippines — Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) world minimumweight champion Ginjiro Shigeoka is showing signs of recovery following emergency brain surgery, his brother Yudai Shigeoka confirmed this week.
The 24-year-old boxer collapsed in the ring on Sunday, May 25, after a 12-round bout against Filipino fighter Pedro Taduran. The match, held in Cebu City, was described as physically intense. Medical personnel responded immediately, and doctors later performed a life-saving craniotomy to address the injuries sustained during the fight.
Yudai Shigeoka, himself a former world boxing champion, shared an update via social media—translated and circulated by Viva Promotions—stating that the family had “passed the most critical week” following the operation. He reported that Ginjiro’s condition has since stabilized under close medical supervision.
Medical professionals continue to monitor Shigeoka’s recovery, and the family is expected to provide further updates as his condition progresses.
