The Philippine Senate Blue Ribbon committee on Monday began investigating 15 major flood control contractors previously flagged by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The inquiry aims to assess how the firms implemented government infrastructure projects and to determine the causes of alleged irregularities.
Senators examined contract awards, project costs, and implementation records of the contractors, who were top recipients of public funds for flood control programs. Officials from implementing agencies submitted documents on bidding processes, project timelines, and payment releases, while engineering and audit teams presented reports detailing alleged substandard work, incomplete structures, and deviations from approved designs.
Committee members directed the contractors to appear before the Senate to explain their compliance with procurement and construction regulations. Lawmakers questioned delays, cost increases, and repeated revisions in flood control projects despite significant public funding.
