In an exclusive interview with CBS News, President Joe Biden spoke with Robert Costa, the chief election and campaign correspondent. The discussion focused on the importance of European unity in supporting Ukraine amid ongoing conflict. Biden emphasized the need for a coordinated global response to help Ukraine defend itself.

During the conversation, Biden recalled insights from former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger regarding NATO’s current strength. He noted that Kissinger views NATO as more united than it has been in recent years. This unity, according to Biden, is crucial for maintaining stability in Europe and countering aggression.

Biden expressed his commitment to reinforcing alliances and ensuring that NATO remains a strong deterrent against threats. He acknowledged the ongoing challenges but believes that a united front is essential. The president mentioned ongoing efforts to increase military support for Ukraine, aiming to bolster its defensive capabilities.

Furthermore, Biden highlighted the importance of communication and collaboration among NATO members. He noted that countries are stepping up contributions to support Ukraine’s military and humanitarian needs. The president stated that solidarity among allies serves to strengthen their collective response.

Biden discussed how the situation in Ukraine has brought NATO members closer together. Many nations have increased defense spending and cooperation in military exercises. He recognized the efforts of various governments to adapt to the changing security landscape and respond effectively.

Costa raised questions about the long-term implications of this conflict for Europe and global security. Biden acknowledged that the war in Ukraine poses significant risks. He reiterated that a strong NATO is vital to prevent further destabilization and uphold international norms.

The president also touched on the economic impacts of supporting Ukraine and how they might influence domestic politics. He conveyed confidence that Americans understand the importance of standing by allies in the face of aggression.

Biden concluded the interview emphasizing the importance of unity among allies in addressing global challenges. He reiterated his belief in the strength of NATO and the collective commitment to supporting Ukraine as a priority for both European stability and global security.
