SAN ANTONIO, Texas– The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents following a phone scam in which a local victim lost $5,900.
According to authorities, the victim received a call from an unidentified male who falsely claimed he needed to set up a fraud alert. Believing the caller was legitimate, the victim provided personal information, including her Social Security number, driver’s license number, and bank password.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that legitimate institutions do not request sensitive information over the phone. Officials urged residents to avoid sharing personal or financial details unless the caller’s identity can be independently verified.
Residents who suspect fraudulent activity or receive suspicious calls are encouraged to contact the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
