SAN ANTONIO, Texas– Bexar County officials have opened five warming centers to provide relief as temperatures are forecasted to drop significantly.

The centers will offer shelter and basic necessities to residents, particularly those without adequate heating in their homes, as a cold front sweeps through the region.

The centers are strategically located throughout the county to accommodate as many individuals as possible. Residents are encouraged to bring medication, clothing, and personal supplies for their comfort.

The warming centers are intended to provide a safe refuge, especially for families, the elderly, and others in need of warmth.

In response to the cold weather, local emergency services are on high alert, and public transportation routes have been adjusted to ensure that individuals without personal transportation can access the centers.

Community organizations are also working alongside the county to spread information about the available resources.

Health professionals are urging residents to protect themselves from extreme cold, which can lead to serious health risks such as frostbite and hypothermia.

For those without reliable heating at home, the warming centers offer a crucial place to stay warm.

The centers will remain open as long as the cold weather persists, with county officials encouraging residents to check on neighbors, especially the elderly or those with mobility limitations.

Volunteers are helping to staff the centers, ensuring smooth operations and providing support to those in need.
