MIAMI — Jude Bellingham scored two goals, including the extra-time winner, as England rallied from an early deficit to defeat Norway, 2-1, on Saturday and advance to the FIFA World Cup semifinals.
Norway, making its first World Cup quarterfinal appearance, took the lead through Andreas Schjelderup in the opening half before Bellingham equalized just before halftime with a left-footed finish.
Norway appeared to regain the advantage in the second half when Torbjørn Heggem scored from a corner, but the goal was disallowed following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review that ruled Erling Haaland had committed a foul before the play.
With the match tied after regulation, Bellingham capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Ørjan Nyland in extra time to score his sixth goal of the tournament and seal England’s victory.
England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford made key saves, while Harry Kane had a first-half goal ruled out for offside. Haaland, whose streak of scoring in 14 consecutive competitive matches for Norway ended, was substituted during extra time because of exhaustion.
Played in temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius in Miami, the match tested both teams physically.
England advanced to the semifinals, where it will face either Argentina or Switzerland for a place in the World Cup final.
