JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Australia secured its third straight FIBA Asia Cup championship on Monday by edging China 90-89 at King Abdullah Sports City.

Xavier Cooks, a former NBA player with the Washington Wizards, led Australia with 30 points. The gold medal match, held early Monday Manila time, featured intense competition from both teams.
