AUSTIN, TEXAS— Austin’s new Wishbone Bridge at Lady Bird Lake is expected to open in early 2026, city officials announced.
The pedestrian and bicycle bridge is designed to improve connectivity and accessibility across the lake as part of the city’s broader infrastructure development plan.
City planners said the project will feature dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, enhanced lighting, and modern safety features to ensure a secure and comfortable experience for users.
The Austin City Council approved the project after conducting environmental assessments and multiple rounds of community consultation.
Officials emphasized that minimizing ecological impact on Lady Bird Lake has been a key priority throughout planning and construction.
City engineers collaborated with environmental experts, local artists, and architects to design the bridge, which aims to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal. The bridge’s curved “wishbone” structure is expected to become a distinctive landmark in the area.
Austin’s transportation department is overseeing construction, while the city has allocated substantial funding to ensure the project’s timely completion. Officials say the new bridge will help ease congestion, promote sustainable mobility, and improve access to nearby green spaces and local businesses.
