The Austin Fire Department extinguished a blaze at an abandoned hotel near Interstate 35 on Sunday, prompting a temporary power shutdown in the area.

Firefighters responded after residents reported smoke and flames from the vacant property, which had been closed for highway expansion. Authorities said no one was inside the building, and no injuries were reported.

The power company cut electricity as a safety measure while crews contained the fire. Police diverted traffic until the area was cleared.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the blaze, and officials urged the public to report suspicious activity near abandoned properties.
