Austin Resource Recovery (ARR) released its first full-year report on the citywide expansion of its on-demand collection services for bulk items, brush, and household hazardous waste (HHW), showing strong performance and high customer satisfaction.
Since launching in January 2025, the program logged more than 73,000 appointments, with bulk collection accounting for the largest share of requests. Overall customer satisfaction exceeded 90%, ARR reported.
The agency noted cost savings and increased recycling revenue, which rose to over $21,000, though bulk collection mileage and fuel costs increased due to higher diversion of recyclables from landfills. Demand peaked during the summer, following usual seasonal trends, and last May’s microburst led to cleanup of over 5,000 tons of debris outside the regular program.
Looking ahead, ARR plans to deploy larger-capacity vehicles, launch a new furniture reuse warehouse, and explore a transfer facility to better handle growing volumes of bulk material.
