AUSTIN, Texas – LGBTQ+ advocates in Austin are opposing a bill, labeled by supporters as the “Women’s Bill of Rights,” currently awaiting Governor Greg Abbott’s signature.

The bill seeks to define gender in a manner that advocates fear could lead to discrimination, particularly against individuals identifying as transgender.

The bill’s text outlines strict definitions of male and female, which proponents argue is essential for preserving women’s rights.

LGBTQ+ groups in the city argue that the bill’s language would marginalize transgender individuals by enforcing rigid gender norms.

Legal experts note that the bill’s implications could lead to numerous legal challenges concerning the rights of transgender individuals.

Governor Abbott has not yet announced whether he will sign or veto the bill.
