AUSTIN, Texas– The Texas Education Agency (TEA) released its 2023 accountability ratings for school districts statewide, assigning the Austin Independent School District (Austin ISD) an overall grade of ‘C’.

At a press conference following the release, Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura expressed concern about the new standards used in the assessment.

Segura stated that the revised metrics do not adequately reflect student achievement or the district’s progress.

According to TEA data, 24 Austin ISD schools earned an ‘A’ rating, while 30 schools received an ‘F’.

Officials noted that while some schools are underperforming, targeted support measures are already in place.

Segura reaffirmed the district’s commitment to student and staff development and highlighted initiatives aimed at long-term educational advancement.

Austin ISD spokespersons outlined a strategic plan to address weaknesses identified in the ratings.

The district will focus on raising student performance in low-rated schools and enhancing instructional quality.

Officials also stressed the importance of collaboration with educators, parents, and community members to meet the district’s educational goals.
