The City of Austin and the Austin Firefighters Association have reached a four-year tentative agreement to increase firefighter salaries and reduce work hours to boost recruitment efforts.

The contract includes immediate wage increases and a shortened workweek for firefighters. These changes aim to make firefighting positions more attractive and improve retention within the Austin Fire Department.

The agreement requires ratification by union members and approval by the City Council before implementation. Once approved, the new terms will take effect to address staffing challenges and improve working conditions.
