AUSTIN, Texas — Tourism and hospitality officials in Austin said they expect increased visitor activity and hotel demand across Central Texas during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even though the city is not scheduled to host matches.

Visit Austin President and CEO Tom Noonan said tourism-related businesses in the city expect higher foot traffic as fans travel to nearby host cities Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston for matches scheduled in Texas.

Noonan said Austin bars and entertainment venues are preparing for increased viewership of World Cup matches, including locations where fans may gather to watch games.

Officials said teams and delegations participating in the tournament are also expected to stay in Austin while training in the region. Noonan said one national team is expected to use Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium for training during the tournament.

He estimated that hotel usage tied to team delegations could account for thousands of room nights in Austin, including accommodations for players and staff.

Short-term rental operators in Austin also reported early bookings connected to World Cup-related travel. Industry representatives said some properties have been reserved by visitors affiliated with participating teams.

Operators said demand patterns in Texas host cities vary depending on match schedules and fan interest in specific games.

Tourism officials in Austin said they expect increased statewide travel activity, with visitors moving between host cities during the tournament period.

Noonan said officials in Dallas and Houston have projected stronger-than-normal summer tourism levels tied to World Cup activity.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will include matches in multiple U.S. cities, including Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston, both located within driving distance of Austin.
