HOUSTON, Texas — The Consulates General of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam, along with the Honorary Consulate General of Thailand, commemorated the 58th ASEAN Day on Friday with a joint celebration at the Indonesian Consulate in Houston.
The event, held on August 8, featured the singing of the ASEAN Hymn and a ceremonial cake-cutting. Indonesian Consul General Ourina Ritonga led the event as host, joined by Philippine Consul General Gunther Sales, Vietnamese Consul General Thuy Duong Hoang, and Thai Honorary Consul General Charles Foster.
As part of the celebration, the consulates inaugurated a photo exhibit titled “ASEAN Pillar in Houston” at the Indonesian Consulate’s cultural gallery. The exhibit showcases key milestones in the history of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
This marks the first time the ASEAN member-state consulates in Houston have jointly held an ASEAN Day celebration. The event aimed to highlight regional cooperation among the Southeast Asian nations represented in the city.
ASEAN was established in 1967 to promote economic growth, peace, and regional stability among its ten member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
