LONDON — Arsenal F.C. will host Atlético Madrid at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal, with a place in the final at stake after a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Madrid.
The aggregate tie remains level after both teams scored from penalties in the first leg last week. The winner will advance to face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said the club aims to reach its first Champions League final since 2006.
“We are so hungry to get the game that we want (Tuesday) and go through to that final,” Arteta said.
Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone said his team will adjust its approach after losing 4-0 to Arsenal in a previous meeting during the league phase in October.
Arsenal has confirmed that midfielder Martin Ødegaard and forward Kai Havertz are available for selection. Atlético is expected to include forward Julián Álvarez.
Arsenal last reached the Champions League final in 2006, when it lost to Barcelona. Atlético Madrid reached the final in 2014 and 2016, losing both matches to Real Madrid.
The winner of the tie will also remain in contention for a potential domestic title race, with Arsenal in position to challenge for the Premier League title depending on its remaining matches.
