MANILA, Philippines— Rep. Edgar Erice on Friday urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, and fellow lawmakers to support the proposed anti-political dynasty bill, which seeks to limit the influence of powerful families in Philippine politics.

Erice said the backing of Marcos and Duterte is crucial to the bill’s passage, noting that their support would signal genuine commitment to political reform. The proposed measure would prohibit members of the same family from holding key government positions simultaneously.

He stressed that political dynasties undermine democratic processes and called on legislators to put national interest above family ties.

Erice expressed frustration over the lack of progress on the issue, citing repeated failures of similar measures in past Congresses. He urged the public to push for the bill’s approval, saying it aligns with constitutional provisions against political dynasties that have long gone unenforced.
