No plagiarism in ‘Moana,’ jury sides with Disney
A Los Angeles jury ruled in favor of Disney, finding no evidence that “Moana” was plagiarized from a story about a young surfer in Hawaii. The lawsuit, initiated by writer Buck Woodall, was dismissed after the jury found no proof of unauthorized access or use of Woodall’s work. “Moana,” inspired by Polynesian culture, remains a celebrated Disney production.
