The global music industry logged an estimated 5.1 trillion streams in 2025 as listeners worldwide continued to turn to digital platforms for music consumption.

Total global streams rose 9.6 percent from 2024, which had previously marked the highest single-year total for music streaming.

On-demand audio streaming in the United States remained a major contributor to overall growth, as listeners continued to rely on both subscription-based and ad-supported music services.

In the U.S. market, rock and gospel emerged among the most popular genres of the year, reflecting strong audience engagement across platforms.

The streaming figures accounted for both audio and video consumption and included paid, ad-supported and programmed streaming formats across multiple digital platforms.

Industry analysts said the year-on-year increase showed continued momentum in global music consumption, even as some major markets showed signs of maturity.

U.S. listeners maintained high engagement levels, helping drive overall growth and reinforcing the country’s role as a key market for digital music.

Streaming continued to outperform physical and download formats, which made up a smaller share of total music consumption during the year.

The 2025 results are expected to serve as a benchmark for tracking future shifts in listening behavior and genre performance across global markets.
