MANILA, Philippines – College of St. Benilde center Allen Liwag won his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award in the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament, league officials announced on Saturday, Dec. 13, during ceremonies at Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Liwag earned the MVP honors based on his elimination-round performance, where he averaged 15.71 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for the Blazers.
The NCAA Management Committee and the league’s statistics group confirmed that he posted the highest statistical points total among all Season 101 players.
The center was in Thailand with the Gilas Pilipinas pool for national team commitments and did not attend the ceremony. College of St. Benilde representatives accepted the MVP trophy on his behalf during halftime of the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball finals game.
The NCAA uses a statistical points system assigning values for points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks, with deductions for turnovers and technical fouls, to determine MVP rankings. Officials confirmed that playoff games did not affect the final tally for individual awards.
