Alex Eala meets top-15 player Clara Tauson in US Open first round

QUEENS, New York — Filipina tennis player Alex Eala faced Denmark’s Clara Tauson in her US Open women’s singles main draw debut on August 24, 2023, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Eala, 20, competed against Tauson, who is ranked World No. 15 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and has secured three WTA titles. The match marked a significant challenge for Eala as she sought her first singles win in a Grand Slam main draw.

The US Open, one of tennis’s four Grand Slam tournaments, attracts top players worldwide and is held annually at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, Queens. Both athletes prepared extensively for the match at this prestigious venue.

Tauson, 22, began playing tennis at age six and has built a successful career on the professional circuit. Eala’s journey to the US Open included appearances in other Grand Slam events like the Australian Open, reflecting her growth as a professional player.
