MANILA — Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala is on course for a highly anticipated rematch with Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open, a matchup that fans are eagerly awaiting.

Eala famously defeated Swiatek in last year’s quarterfinals in Miami, marking a breakthrough in her WTA career as the first wildcard to beat three Grand Slam champions in a single tournament. She fell to Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, while Swiatek later exacted revenge at the Madrid Open.

This year, Eala, seeded 31st, will face either Laure Siegemund or Petra Marcinko in her opening match, with a potential third-round clash against World No. 3 Swiatek, Miami’s No. 2 seed, looming in the round of 32. Swiatek will play the winner between Magda Linette and Varvara Gracheva in her opener.

Since their last meetings, Eala has climbed to No. 29 in the WTA rankings, highlighting her rapid rise on the tour. The Miami Open main draw kicks off this Thursday, setting the stage for a possible showdown that could once again captivate tennis fans worldwide.
