MANILA, Philippines— Filipino gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo on Sunday won a bronze medal in the floor exercise at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships in an event that team officials said he entered while managing a right ankle injury.

Officials of the Philippine gymnastics delegation said Yulo trained and competed under medical supervision and received clearance from team doctors before the finals. Coaches monitored his condition during the competition and allowed him to perform after evaluations.

Yulo completed his performance despite visible discomfort and favored his right ankle after landing his tumbling passes. Medical staff at the venue remained on standby and prepared to assess him after the event.

The delegation scheduled a follow-up evaluation of Yulo’s ankle to determine his readiness for upcoming competitions. Officials said they will adjust his competition plans based on medical findings.

Yulo reached the floor final after meeting the qualifying score in the preliminary round. The Philippine team added his bronze medal to its overall tally for the 2025 Junior World Championships.

National gymnastics officials identified Yulo as one of the country’s junior prospects before the world meet and included him in the roster for the 2025 season. His training program focused on improving his difficulty level and consistency.
