MANILA, Philippines — The government has announced revisions to the Ayuda Para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (Akap), a cash assistance initiative for low-income residents, requiring beneficiaries to present their national identification cards to qualify for aid.

This new measure aims to address concerns over duplication and misuse of funds, ensuring that assistance reaches its intended recipients.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which oversees the program, emphasized the importance of accurate identification to enhance fairness and transparency in aid distribution.

The national ID system will be used to verify beneficiaries, streamlining the process and preventing fraudulent claims.

Officials believe the integration of the national ID requirement will improve record accuracy and resource allocation, benefiting those who genuinely need support.

The Akap program provides critical financial assistance to low-income families, helping them meet essential needs, particularly during economic hardships.

The national ID system, actively promoted by the government, is central to modernizing social welfare services.

By linking the ID system to the Akap program, authorities aim to reduce administrative burdens and improve efficiency. This approach is expected to serve as a model for other government aid programs.

To facilitate the transition, the government is organizing workshops and informational sessions to assist citizens in registering for their national IDs.
