MANILA, Philippines– The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) warned the public in Manila about a YouTube channel posting AI-generated deepfake videos impersonating AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
The military said the content digitally alters his likeness and voice to mislead viewers.
The AFP said the videos were created without authorization from Gen. Brawner or the military. It urged the public to verify any online content through official AFP platforms and recognized government channels and to report suspicious videos or accounts to authorities.
Officials said producing and sharing such deceptive videos may violate Philippine laws on cybercrime, identity theft, and related offenses. The AFP reminded the public that official messages from Gen. Brawner appear only on verified accounts and accredited media outlets.
The AFP said it is monitoring online platforms for malicious content that could affect national security, public trust, or the integrity of official communications. It called on media organizations and digital platforms to help flag and remove videos falsely attributing statements or appearances to Gen. Brawner.
