MANILA, Philippines –Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr., rejected a proposal from former President Rodrigo Duterte suggesting that the military should intervene in the governance of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., labeling it as “fractured.”

Brawner emphasized that the military’s role is to defend the Philippines and its people, not to meddle in governance matters.

The proposal from Duterte came during a public speech where he criticized the Marcos administration. He described the current governance as fractured and expressed his belief that the military could be a solution to this issue.

Brawner stated that there is no room for military intervention in political affairs. According to Brawner, the military remains loyal to the government and the Constitution, and any form of intervention would be against their principles.

Duterte, who served as the President of the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, has been known for his strong and sometimes controversial statements. His proposal has sparked discussions and debates among political analysts and the general public. Some view it as a call for stability, while others see it as an undermining of the democratic process.

The Marcos administration, in the face of Duterte’s criticism, has not released a detailed statement on the issue. However, sources within the government indicate that they are focused on their agenda and are working on addressing national concerns.

In addition to rejecting Duterte’s proposal, the AFP has also been managing other security issues within the country. Brawner reassured the public that the military is focused on maintaining peace and security, and any form of political involvement is not within their mandate.
