MANILA, Philippines — Antipolo Representative Romeo Acop criticized Senator Ronald dela Rosa on Sunday over comments made by the senator regarding members of the House of Representatives. Dela Rosa referred to the House members as “unprincipled” and “opportunistic.”

Acop did not hold back in his response, stating that if there is any real opportunist, it is Senator Dela Rosa himself. He accused the senator of having leveraged his connections with former President Rodrigo Duterte to advance his political career. Acop also emphasized the importance of personal integrity and questioned whether Dela Rosa truly embodies the values he condemns in others.

The tension between the two lawmakers signifies a growing divide within Philippine politics, as accusations and counter-accusations continue to unfold in the public arena. Acop’s remarks highlighted perceived inconsistencies in Dela Rosa’s statements, suggesting that the senator’s own political ascent is rooted in opportunism.

Acop urged his colleagues in the House to remain steadfast in their principles and to focus on their commitments to the public. He framed Dela Rosa’s remarks as an attempt to deflect attention from his own actions and called for accountability among lawmakers. Acop’s statement was a defense of House members and an appeal for respect amongst elected officials.
