Governor Greg Abbott and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. ceremonially signed the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) legislation at the Texas Capitol in Austin which will take effect on September 1, 2025. The legislation focuses on improving rural healthcare initiatives within Texas.
Under the MAHA legislation, the Texas government will implement measures to enhance access to healthcare services in rural areas. These measures include increasing funding for rural health clinics and expanding telemedicine services.
Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of addressing healthcare disparities in rural communities during the signing ceremony. Secretary Kennedy highlighted the federal government’s support for these initiatives.
The MAHA legislation also aims to address food and nutrition insecurity in Texas. The law requires food manufacturers to include warning labels on products containing certain additives.
