AUCKLAND, New Zealand– A cat in Auckland’s North Shore has drawn attention for repeatedly stealing clothing from nearby homes.

The cat, named Leonardo da Pinchy — or Leo — has been bringing home items such as socks, underwear, and a stuffed snake.

Helen North, Leo’s owner, told local media that the cat collects laundry from surrounding properties. She said Leo often returns carrying garments taken from clotheslines and drying racks.

Residents began noticing missing items when laundry started disappearing. Reports indicate that Leo often brings back men’s socks and silk boxer shorts.

Attempts to restrict Leo’s access to the outdoors have not stopped the behavior. North said reactions from neighbors have included both amusement and frustration.

Some residents have labeled their laundry or recovered items from around the area. Clothing believed to have been taken by Leo has been found scattered across the neighborhood.

Social media posts about Leo’s behavior have spread his reputation as a “cat burglar” beyond the local area. News outlets have also reported on the story.

While some neighbors have raised concerns about missing items, others have responded with humor. Leo’s actions have made him a known figure in the community.

North continues to monitor the situation and is working with neighbors to address the issue.
