In a notable development within Houston’s vibrant dining scene, the acclaimed MF Lobster & Seafood has officially closed its doors, paving the way for a renowned Michelin-starred hospitality group to take over its space. Situated at 3711 Autry Park Dr., MF Lobster & Seafood had been celebrated since its opening on February 16, 2024, for its seasonal ceviche and innovative seafood offerings, including lobster grilled cheese and tacos. However, the restaurant announced its closure on June 10, with owner and sushi chef Chris Kinjo deciding to focus on his other culinary ventures, particularly those reflecting his Vietnamese and Japanese heritage.

Chef Kinjo, who recently launched the Viet-French restaurant Annam in the same area, emphasized the strategic decision to sell the establishment. He expressed that MF Lobster’s American dining style did not align with his culinary vision, which is more rooted in Asian cuisines. Annam has already received acclaim for its unique dishes like clay pot salmon and Vietnamese crepe spring rolls, reinforcing Kinjo’s commitment to his cultural culinary focus.

Taking over the vacated venue is Austin-based Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group, marking their first expansion into Houston. Known for their critically acclaimed restaurants, including the flagship Emmer & Rye and the live-fire concept Hestia, the group is celebrated for their culinary excellence, as evidenced by accolades at Texas’ inaugural Michelin Guide ceremony. Hestia earned a Michelin star, while Emmer & Rye received a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, alongside Bib Gourmands for both Emmer & Rye and Ladino, a Mediterranean eatery in San Antonio.

The new, yet unnamed restaurant is anticipated to open in late 2025, promising an exciting addition to Houston’s culinary landscape. This transition not only signifies a new chapter for Houston’s food lovers but also exemplifies the dynamic evolution of the city’s dining options, blending innovative culinary concepts with celebrated gastronomic traditions.
