SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy was arrested and booked into custody for allegedly facilitating assaults among inmates at the county jail, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Sheriff Javier Salazar announced the arrest, calling the deputy’s actions “highly illegal” and a severe breach of duty. The deputy, who had recently started his shift at the facility, is accused of allowing inmates to access other cells, leading to assaults within the jail.

“This kind of behavior will not be tolerated,” Sheriff Salazar said in a statement. “We are treating this as a criminal act, and the individual has been booked just like any other inmate.”

Officials are urging inmates who witnessed or experienced such assaults to report the incidents, assuring them that measures are in place to protect against retaliation.

Sheriff Salazar emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring inmate safety and upholding ethical standards within the jail.

No formal charges against the arrested deputy have been announced, pending further investigation. Authorities have not released the deputy’s identity.

The Sheriff’s Office said it will take appropriate disciplinary action based on the findings of the investigation.
