McKinney, Texas – The City Council of McKinney on May 6, approved contracts for a $72 million expansion of McKinney National Airport, which will include the construction of a new passenger terminal.
The expansion aims to make McKinney National Airport the third commercial airport in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, joining Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field.
The approved contracts total $58 million, which will fund the construction of airport facilities.
The funding for the expansion will come from a combination of local, state, and private investments, with $52.4 million from various sources.
The new terminal will have three gates initially, with the potential to expand to five gates in the future. Construction is expected to begin in June 2025, with commercial flights planned to start by late 2026.
McKinney National Airport, located approximately 30 miles north of downtown Dallas, currently serves general aviation and private jet services.
The expansion is intended to help alleviate congestion at existing DFW airports and meet growing passenger demand. The new terminal is expected to serve both business and leisure travelers and is positioned to support economic development in the region.
