Pope Francis passed away on Monday at the age of 88, according to an official statement from the Vatican. On Easter Sunday, he made a public appearance at Saint Peter’s Square, which many anticipated would be his last. Cardinal Kevin Farrell announced the news, stating, “Dearest brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis.” The cardinal noted that Pope Francis died at 7:35 a.m. local time. He described Pope Francis’s life as dedicated to the service of the Lord and the Church.
