MANILA, Philippines — Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), announced plans on Saturday to acquire more missile systems, warships, and fighter jets to strengthen the nation’s military deterrence capabilities.

The AFP confirmed the arrival of BrahMos cruise missiles from India as part of these efforts.

A P35 billion budget is allocated for the AFP’s modernization program for 2025.

The BRP Diego Silang missile corvette has been launched to support these initiatives.

Brawner emphasized the significance of strategic partnerships, particularly with India, in enhancing military capabilities.

The military seeks additional funding sources to facilitate these upgrades. The procurement aims to boost both capability and deterrence of the AFP.

Brawner outlined the necessity of these improvements in a statement released by the AFP.

The government supports these efforts to secure and protect national interests.

The AFP will continue to assess and identify potential areas for further enhancements.
