HOUSTON, Texas– Fort Bend County Judge KP George was arrested on Friday in Richmond, Texas, on two charges of money laundering, each ranging from $30,000 to $150,000, according to county jail records.
George, who is a Democrat and was re-elected to a second term in 2022, now faces serious allegations involving financial misconduct.
The arrest of Judge George, who serves in Fort Bend County, follows a previous indictment in September on a Class A misdemeanor charge for misrepresentation of identity.
Authorities accuse him of collaborating with former staff member Taral Patel in creating false racist attacks against his own campaign on social media platforms.
The misrepresentation of identity charge involves allegations that Judge George falsely assumed identities to mislead the public and impact the perception of his campaign.
Taral Patel, the former staffer implicated in the misrepresentation of identity case, reportedly assisted in orchestrating the fake attacks on social media.
The motive behind these actions, as alleged by prosecutors, was to generate public sympathy and support for George’s campaign through fabricated narratives.
The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s office is leading the prosecution against George, who is currently detained at the county jail.
KP George has not yet publicly responded to the latest charges, and his legal team has not issued any statements regarding the arrest.
