Texas House Republicans face opposition to a proposed school voucher program that would allow parents to use state tax dollars for private school tuition.

Supporters argue the program will give parents control over their children’s education by allowing them to choose private schools.

They believe this will increase competition among schools and encourage innovation, as private institutions often have more flexibility than public schools.

Opponents argue the program could harm public education by diverting funds from underfunded public schools.

They fear it could create a two-tiered education system, where wealthier families benefit from private schools and less affluent students remain in public schools.

Educators and public school advocates oppose the proposal, arguing that public education is vital for equal opportunities. They believe state funds should go toward improving public schools, not supporting private institutions.
