MANILA, Philippines –A recent survey by Social Weather Stations (SWS) revealed a decline in satisfaction ratings for several top government officials in the Philippines.

The survey, conducted between December 12 and 18, 2024, indicated that satisfaction with the performance of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, and other key leaders decreased significantly in the fourth quarter of the year.

President Marcos Jr. experienced a drop in his net satisfaction rating, losing 13 points compared to previous assessments.

The rating, which measures the percentage satisfied minus the percentage dissatisfied, now stands at +19. This marks a notable reduction in public approval, reflecting growing discontent among Filipinos.

Vice President Duterte also saw her satisfaction ratings fall, albeit by a smaller margin of six points, resulting in a net rating of +21. While still higher than that of the President, this decline suggests waning public confidence in her leadership.

The survey results also showed diminished satisfaction with the leaders of Congress and the judiciary. The Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Senate President both faced declines in their respective satisfaction ratings.

Filipinos expressed growing concerns about the effectiveness and direction of the legislative branch of government.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court wasn’t immune to this downward trend, with satisfaction ratings for the judiciary also taking a hit. This indicates broader dissatisfaction with the judicial system’s performance and effectiveness.

Experts suggest a variety of factors may have contributed to the decline in satisfaction ratings. Economic challenges, including inflation and rising prices of basic commodities, are likely influencing public perception.

The government’s handling of these issues, coupled with concerns over corruption and governance, may be affecting overall confidence in elected officials.
