The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has granted royal clemency to 220 Filipinos convicted of various offenses.

The pardon was announced during the 53rd celebration of Eid Al Etihad, an occasion in the UAE.

The Philippine Embassy in the UAE and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai expressed gratitude for the clemency, emphasizing the UAE’s values of compassion, justice, and mercy.

The embassy and consulate noted the importance of this gesture in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Philippine government acknowledged the clemency as a positive development in diplomatic ties with the UAE.

The government is working with UAE authorities to facilitate the repatriation of the pardoned individuals, though no timeline for their return has been provided.

The Philippines and the UAE have maintained diplomatic relations since 1974. The UAE hosts a significant number of Filipino workers, and the clemency is seen as a gesture of goodwill toward the Filipino community.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude for the UAE’s action, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two nations.

The Philippine government has pledged to assist the pardoned individuals in their reintegration upon their return.
