MANILA, Philippines — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and singer-content creator Chloe San Jose revealed Monday that they have been engaged since December 2025 after keeping the proposal private for nearly nine months.
The couple announced the engagement in a vlog posted Sept. 28, where they shared details of the proposal and discussed why they chose to keep the news private.
Yulo said he had considered proposing to San Jose in September 2025 before leaving for a training camp in Japan.
San Jose said she noticed Yulo acting differently in the months before the proposal. She recalled that he often lost sleep and watched her while she slept.
She did not suspect that Yulo planned to propose because she believed they were attending a Christmas party. She said she realized what was happening only after they arrived at the venue and she saw the lights.
Yulo gave San Jose two engagement rings during the proposal. He explained that San Jose supported him throughout his journey toward winning two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Si Chloe po talaga ‘yung tumulong sa akin magkaroon ng two gold medals sa Olympics. Para sa akin, siya ‘yung gold medal ng puso ko. So dalawang engagement ring ‘yung binigay ko sa kanya,” Yulo said.
The couple also recounted how their relationship started in the vlog’s caption. San Jose initially sent Yulo a message that said, “Hi, I’m a fan po.”
The two started their relationship in 2020 while San Jose lived and studied in Melbourne, Australia, and Yulo trained in Japan. They initially communicated online before meeting in person and making their relationship official.
Their relationship drew public attention after Yulo’s Olympic victories in August 2024, when a dispute between the gymnast and his mother, Angelica Yulo, became public.
Angelica publicly criticized San Jose and connected her to tensions in her relationship with her son. San Jose later responded to some of Angelica’s statements on social media.
Yulo previously addressed questions about whether his parents would attend his future wedding to San Jose. He said he wanted the wedding to focus on him and San Jose.
San Jose first gained attention as a content creator before pursuing music professionally under the name Chloe SJ. She released her debut single, “Aking Pagmamahal,” in 2021.
In 2025, she released “FR FR” and “Nonchalant” under ABS-CBN’s StarPop label before releasing her seven-track EP, “Chloe Anjeleigh…For Real.”
Yulo became the first Filipino athlete to win two gold medals in a single Olympic Games when he won the men’s floor exercise and vault events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
