PROSPER, Texas — The National Socialist Movement (NSM), a neo-Nazi and white supremacist organization, held a planned rally outside Prosper City Hall Saturday to protest the 35-year prison sentence given to local high school student Karmelo Anthony in the fatal stabbing of fellow student Austin Metcalf.
About 10 NSM members attended the rally, according to video from independent journalist Ford Fischer, while Prosper police monitored the gathering.
Three apparent counter-protesters approached the group after 1 p.m. and delivered a cooler before police asked them to leave the area. Fischer said the contents of the cooler remained unclear.
The Prosper Police Department directed questions about the rally to another city office, which had not responded as of Sunday afternoon.
Group protests Anthony sentence
A website promoting the rally said the NSM organized the event to protest Anthony’s sentence in the 2025 stabbing of Metcalf during a track meet in Frisco.
The NSM said the sentence did not adequately punish Anthony.
NSM leader Burt Colucci also made antisemitic and anti-Arab remarks during the rally. Some attendees wore armbands featuring swastikas, while another man spoke while dressed to resemble Adolf Hitler.
The rally ended Saturday afternoon without reported arrests or altercations.
NSM classified as hate group
The NSM formed in 1975 and the Southern Poverty Law Center classifies it as a hate group.
The organization also livestreamed the rally online and solicited donations through Bitcoin. Four donors had contributed a total of $195 toward a $1,000 fundraising goal as of Sunday.
