DESOTO, Texas — More than 15,000 people have signed an online petition seeking accountability after a 2-year-old Goldendoodle named Rocco allegedly died after spending time chained outside in the Texas heat, as DeSoto authorities continue investigating the case.
The Change.org petition had collected 15,017 verified signatures as of Tuesday. It calls on local authorities to investigate Rocco’s death and hold those responsible accountable.
The allegations have not been independently verified.
According to the petition, a neighbor said Rocco was repeatedly left outside for hours without water or shade despite attempts to intervene. The petition alleges that the dog remained chained outside in extreme heat before his death.
DeSoto police acknowledged the case in an Aug. 17 social media statement. Police said Animal Control responded Aug. 8 to a home in the 1200 block of Primrose Lane near U.S. 67 after receiving a call involving an animal.
“We acknowledge a related video circulating online and assure the public that the incident is being investigated,” police said.
Authorities have not identified anyone involved in the case and have not announced any charges.
DeSoto police declined to provide an update Tuesday and referred inquiries to city officials, who had not responded.
The petition describes Rocco as a “loyal and loving dog” and urges authorities to pursue the case. It also calls for stronger enforcement and community education to prevent similar animal deaths.
Rocco’s case has drawn attention online as supporters share the petition and demand action.
The investigation remains ongoing.
